BOCA RATON, Fla. --

A 3-year-old boy came to the rescue when a fire started at his Boca Raton home last month.

When a lamp fell over and started a small fire, Aiden Lindsey apparently applied what he learned when Palm Beach County firefighters recently visited his preschool to talk to children about fire safety.

"So I picked the lamp up and there was a fire underneath, and he ran in with a Tupperware of water that he was pretending to drink soup from and he pushed me aside and poured the water out onto the fire," mother Erica Lindsey said.

A golf ball-sized hole remains in the rug.

It turns out Aiden comes from several generations of firefighters.

"I poured the water on it," he said.

Aiden was supposed to have lunch with a group of county firefighters Tuesday morning, and he'll also take home a junior firefighter certificate for his good deed.

"I was amazed that he did that -- that he even knew to put the water out on the fire," Erica Lindsey said.

Aiden said he considers himself a hero for putting out the fire, saving his mother and his younger brother, Logan.

Of course, Aiden said he wants to be a policeman or a firefighter when he grows up.
