Three Portland firefighters were injured in an explosion at a home on Saturday afternoon, according to WTNH-TV.
Crews responded to reports of a gas leak at a duplex on Summer Road at approximately 2:45 p.m. after a backhoe struck a propane tank.
The three firefighters were checking for anyone who may have been inside the structure when a large explosion occurred, causing a portion of the house to collapse, the report said.
One firefighter was transported to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries while the other two were transported to Middlesex Hospital.
No other injuries were reported.
The fire was brought under control by 4 p.m. and crews remained on the scene to cover any flare ups.
While investigators know what caused the initial gas leak, it is not clear what ignited the gas.
