Five Hurt Early Morning House Fire in Iowa

CENTERVILLE, Iowa -- Witnesses told KCCI on Thursday that two people were airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City following a house fire in Centerville. A driver called 911 to report the fire at 6:45 a.m. at 406 North 18th Street. Authorities said five people were inside the house when the fire broke out. Two were airlifted and three others taken by ambulance to Iowa City.

Witnesses told KCCI on Thursday that two people were airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City following a house fire in Centerville.

A driver called 911 to report the fire at 6:45 a.m. at 406 North 18th Street.

Authorities said five people were inside the house when the fire broke out. Two were airlifted and three others taken by ambulance to Iowa City.

Witness Bill Weideman reported to KCCI that Highway 5 in Centerville was shut down for more than four hours as firefighters fought the fire.

Names and conditions of those airlifted are not yet available.

Donations for the family are being accepted at 105 N. Main St. Monday-Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., reported the Daily Iowegian newspaper.

The state fire marshal is on the scene Thursday afternoon and trying to determine a cause.
