Twelve people were injured -- including a man who was seriously burned -- when an early-morning blaze ripped through the basement of a building in Jamaica.
The fire broke out in the basement of a three-story building on 89th Avenue near 169th Street about 5 a.m. yesterday morning, fire officials said.
It took 60 firefighters nearly an hour to bring the blaze under control.
One man was seriously burned with injuries over nearly half his body, sources said. He was taken to New York Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, officials said.
Five firefighters also suffered minor injuries, along with six residents.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
