The three firefighters caught in the flashover luckily escaped with only minor injuries and were transported to INOVA Fairfax Hospital.

Crews responded to the call shortly before 8 a.m. on the 6800 block of Clowser Court in Springfield for a two-alarm fire that would gut both floors of a townhouse, according to WUSA-TV.

When firefighters arrived, three adults and one child had already escaped the blaze but that a woman, who was treated at the scene, was flown to a burn unit in critical condition.

Officials told the news station that the fire apparently started in the kitchen of the home but are still investigating the cause.
