Alpharetta police said two officers helped rescue a father and his two infant children from their burning home.

Alpharetta police spokesman George Gordon said a neighbor who lives behind the house called 911 after seeing heavy smoke coming from the house Friday morning.

Gordon said the two officers who arrived ran inside the house to find one of the residents trying to get the infants out. He said the officers helped the family escape unharmed.

Gordon said fire crews contained the blaze to the back of the house, which Gordon said has "moderate to extensive" damage. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
