KENOSHA, Wis. --
No one was injured when an explosion destroyed a house in Kenosha late Monday night, according to the Kenosha Fire Department.
The vacant house near 22nd Avenue and 55th Street exploded shortly before midnight Tuesday morning.
The sound of the explosion could be heard several miles away, according to firefighters. Hundreds of nearby windows were blown out.
Battalion Chief John Poltrock said firefighters contained a resulting fire in the house.
Investigators are on the scene trying to figure out a cause. They said natural gas could be a contributing factor.
WE Energies temporarily shut off gas to about 15 homes in the area. The Red Cross is helping those who need a warm place to stay. Some of those people are staying at a local church.
Authorities said no one was hurt in the blast.
