An Eagle River Fire Protection District fire truck rolled over while avoiding a stranded driver on Dec. 18, according to The Vail Daily

The pumper truck was responding to a crash in Edwards on I-70 at approximately 9 a.m. when it swerved to avoid a man in the middle of the road.

The man was standing next to his disabled vehicle, which spun out and hit a guardrail, Fire Chief Charlie Moore told the newspaper.

"Our employee made a split-second decision to take the exit ramp to avoid hitting the stranded motorist," he said. "As a result of that life-saving maneuver, our reserve pumper truck lost control on the 'glare ice' and rolled on its side."

No one was hurt in the collision and no citations were issued.

The pumper was insured and the damages are currently being assessed.
