Colo. Fire Chief Struck by Car at Scene of Crash
The Clear Creek County Fire Chief was airlifted to a hospital after he was struck by a vehicle on Highway 40 near Empire on Tuesday.
Fire Chief Kelly Babeon was outside his vehicle and was on the highway when he was struck.
The Colorado State Patrol said Babeon was helping at an accident scene involving property damage, but officials didn't have any more details.
Babeon was airlifted to St. Anthony's Hospital, but officials did not know the exent of his injuries. He is listed in fair condition.
Babeon has served as chief of the Clear Creek Fire Authority since 2001, according to the organization's website. He also served as a Georgetown volunteer firefighter.
Roads in the area are icy and snowpacked.
No one was else was hurt.
