SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A fire gutted a home in Sacramento, and firefighters say budget cuts delayed their response. The blaze occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday at 3931 7th Ave. One person was taken to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. "There was a slight delay with the first engine company due to a brownout," said Chris Ortiz of Sacramento Fire Department. Brownouts are rolling station closures, which have occurred as the city works to save money.

A fire gutted a home in Sacramento, and firefighters say budget cuts delayed their response.

The blaze occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday at 3931 7th Ave.

One person was taken to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

"There was a slight delay with the first engine company due to a brownout," said Chris Ortiz of Sacramento Fire Department.

Brownouts are rolling station closures, which have occurred as the city works to save money.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials said the blaze appears suspicious.
