A probationary volunteer firefighter with Powers Volunteer Fire & Rescue was ejected from a pickup truck after he collided with another vehicle while en route to the station on Aug. 9, according to The Hattiesburg American.
The wreck occurred at the intersection of Magnolia Road and Mississippi 84 East as the 19-year-old firefighter, driving his GMC Sierra 1500 pickup, crossed four lanes and slammed into a Lincoln Continental.
The firefighter was traveling to his station to respond to a wildfire in Myrick.
The impact of the crash forced the car off the road and down an embankment before hitting the side of a ditch, according to the newspaper.
The pickup spun around and the firefighter was ejected, landing on the pavement before the still-moving truck struck a stop sign, which then fell on him.
Both drivers were transported to South Central Regional Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening.
