Two Ohio Firefighters Burned in Flashover

Two Columbus firefighters were burned in a flashover while battling a duplex fire early yesterday morning.

Crews responded to the fire on Dana Avenue at approximately 5:23 a.m. and found flames coming up from the basement and out of the windows.

The flashover occurred on the second floor and firefighters quickly exited the structure.

Two firefighters suffered smoke inhalation and first- and second-degree burns, according to Battalion Chief David Whiting.

Both were transported to Ohio State University Medical Center for treatment.

A female resident -- who was in the basement when the fire ignited -- also was injured.

Firefighters contained the blaze in a half hour.

Fire officials ruled the fire as accidental and determined the cause to be electrical.
