Conn. Firefighter Struck by Car Outside Firehouse

EAST WINDSOR, Conn. -- A 75-year-old veteran of the East Windsor Fire Department was recovering in the hospital Sunday morning after he was struck by a car Saturday afternoon. The firefighter was identified as Anthony Dimastrantonio, or as he is better known "Tony D." He was crossing the street to make a donation to Toys 4 Tots when the accident happened. Police said the accident occurred just steps away from the fire department on Bridge Street.

EAST WINDSOR, Conn. --

A 75-year-old veteran of the East Windsor Fire Department was recovering in the hospital Sunday morning after he was struck by a car Saturday afternoon.

The firefighter was identified as Anthony Dimastrantonio, or as he is better known "Tony D." He was crossing the street to make a donation to Toys 4 Tots when the accident happened.

Police said the accident occurred just steps away from the fire department on Bridge Street.

Dimastrantonio was transported to Hartford Hospital with a broken right leg, fractured hip and cuts to his head, police said. He was scheduled to undergo surgery on his leg Sunday.

Police have not said if the driver of the car will face any charges.
