A Chenoa firefighter was hospitalized after his engine crashed while responding to a blaze at a gas company facility this morning, according to The Pantagraph

The crash occurred shortly before 5 a.m. when the engine was trying to negotiate a sharp left turn on a wet two-lane road. The apparatus -- carrying 1,000 gallons of water at the time -- overturned on its left side into a ditch.

Firefighter Don Nagel was transported to OSF Saint James Hospital in Pontiac and was treated and released.

The blaze the fire engine was responding to occurred at approximately 4 a.m. at a Nicor facility at county roads 1600 North and 2000 East after a natural gas line broke. Crews found flames shooting at least 150 feet in the air.

The company began to shut down the line and conducted a "controlled burn" for about three hours, according to the report. The fire was out before 8 a.m.
