Two Sacramento firefighters were burned while battling a blaze yesterday, according to KTXL-TV.
Firefighter Doug Calvert suffered first and second degree burns to his face while an unnamed firefighter suffered first degree burns to his ears.
Calvert was transported to UC Davis Medical Center and was treated and released. The second firefighter was treated at the scene.
Crews responded to the house in South Sacramento on the 4400 block of 39th Avenue shortly before 4:30 p.m. They encountered 30-foot-high flames which made is difficult for firefighters to gain access, according to the report.
The home's resident told the news station that he forgot to turn off the stove, which had a grease-filled pan on it. When he returned to the house, he poured water on the fire, which only helped fuel the flames.
The home was deemed a total loss.
