Ohio Firefighter Critical After Crash

A Portage volunteer firefighter is in critical condition, and a young man is dead after a collision that occurred on Friday night, according The Port Clinton News Herald.Firefighter Timothy Johnson was responding to a fire at the Clay Center Recreation at approximately 10:18 p.m. in his 2004 GMC Sierra truck when he struck a 1999 Mazda Protégé in which 24-year-old Ian Hoffman was a passenger.

A Portage volunteer firefighter is in critical condition, and a young man is dead after a collision that occurred on Friday night, according The Port Clinton News Herald.

Firefighter Timothy Johnson was responding to a fire at the Clay Center Recreation at approximately 10:18 p.m. in his 2004 GMC Sierra truck when he struck a 1999 Mazda Protégé in which 24-year-old Ian Hoffman was a passenger.

The driver of the car, Olivia Duty, pulled into the intersection and was trying to turn when she was hit. The impact sent the car off the road and into a field while Johnson's truck hit a tree, according to the report.

Johnson was not wearing a seat belt, but his air bags deployed. He was transported to Magruder Hospital, and then transported by Life Flight to Medical University of Ohio, where he remains in critical condition.

The airbags in Duty's car did not deploy and Hoffman, who was not wearing a seat belt, was killed.

It is not known if Duty was belted in and she was taken was taken to the hospital, where she is listed in stable condition.

No charges have been filed and police believe alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
