A Richland Township assistant fire chief has been charged with assault after an altercation involving his fellow firefighters late last month, according to The Daily American.

Several members of the fire department were cleaning up following a motorcycle rally called "Thunder in the Valley" at approximately 3 a.m. on June 27 when they began having a water battle by throwing water on each other and putting members into a tub of ice water that held beer, police told the newspaper.

Firefighter Michael Wirick and other firefighters started to carry Assistant Fire Chief Jason C. Ober over to the water tub before he broke free and became violent. Police said he started punching and spitting at Wirick.

Wirick told police he and other firefighters tried to calm their assistant chief down, but he continued to threaten him.

Police charged Ober with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct

Ober is still a member of the fire department and his hearing is yet to be scheduled.
