A Portage Fire District volunteer firefighter was indicted in a fatal crash that occurred this summer when he was responding to a call, according to The Port Clinton News Herald.

Firefighter Timothy Johnson was traveling 96 mph around 11 p.m. on July 16 just before he crashed into another vehicle, killing its passenger.

He was indicted by an Ottawa County grand jury on one count each of aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault.

The incident occurred after he received a call to assist Allen-Clay firefighters on a fire at a Clay Center recreation center at approximately 10:56 p.m., according to the report.

An investigation by the Ohio Highway Patrol concluded that he had no time to stop or avoid a collision when his truck struck 20-year-old Olivia Duty's 1999 Mazda Protege.

The passenger, 24-year-old Ian Hoffman, was killed in the crash.

If convicted on both charges, Johnson faces up to 6 and a half years in prison and $15,000 in fines.
