Two Queens Five-Alarm Fires Rage
Two five-alarm fires tore through Queens, New York yesterday, causing heat-related injuries to 30 FDNY firefighters, according to WNBC-TV.
More than 200 firefighters responded to the first blaze in the Elmhurst area at approximately 10:20 a.m. By noon, the fire had spread through the upper floors of the seven-story apartment building and through the roof.
It took crews close to two and a half hours in 90-plus degree temperatures to get the fire under control.
Fifteen firefighters and one EMT suffered mostly minor injuries and only a few had to be transported to nearby hospitals, according to the report.
The second five-alarmed took place in the Bay Terrance neighborhood at approximately 2:30 p.m. in another seven-story apartment building on Bell Boulevard. (Watch Video)
Fifteen firefighters suffered mostly heat-related injuries while seven residents suffered minor injuries.
Officials told the news station that water pressure did not seem to be an issue in either case.
