A St. Cloud fire engine was destroyed when it caught fire inside a firehouse this morning, according to The St. Cloud Times.

The fire started at approximately 6 a.m. at Station 3 on University Drive SE. A 1997 Ford Louisville Pumper was destroyed and the structure sustained smoke damage as result of the fire.

Three firefighters who were on duty were alerted by fire alarms and could see flames through a window in the door leading to the bays, Fire Chief Bill Mund told the newspaper.

A water line used to wash the vehicles was used to put out the flames.

A fire engine and grass rig were in the bays and also sustained smoke damage.

The roof was damaged and firefighters were on the roof today removing damaged pieces, according to the report.

Stations 1, 2 and 5 will respond to the area that Fire Station 3 serves for the weekend and city officials will look at the damaged station today to assess the extent of the damage.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
