The crew was traveling in a 1990 Pierce Pumper Tanker en route to a structure fire with the lights and siren activated at approximately 1:40 a.m.

The truck's passenger-side tires suddenly dropped off the roadway and the driver, Firefighter Charles Farr, overcorrected to the left and veered off the road before striking an embankment and rolling over.

Both Farr and the front seat passenger were ejected from the apparatus.

Farr was flown to St. John's Hospital in Creve Coeur with serious injuries.

Also injured were firefighters Elias D. Grimwood, Justin L. Holmes, Mitchell J. Konersmann, Ricardo A. Scavone and Adam M. Schenavar. All five received minor injuries and were taken to Parkland Hospital in Farmington where they were treated and released, according to the report.

Farmington City Administrator Greg Beavers told the newspaper that a one of the tanker's passengers said there was a car in the middle of the road coming towards them just before the incident, causing them to hug the side of the road to avoid it.

The pumper truck is listed as totaled and had to be towed from the scene.
