Hawaii Firefighters Rescue Stranded Boaters

HONOLULU -- Big Island firefighters on Wednesday morning rescued two men drifting in a small boat off Mahukona. A helicopter found the 8-foot dinghy about a mile off shore after receiving a call shortly after 10 a.m. The boaters could not paddle back to shore because of strong winds, fire officials said. The fire department directed a passing boat to help tow the dinghy to shore. Crews took one of the men to North Kohala Hospital for observation.
