A fire consumed the Caddo Parish Fire District 1 firehouse this early this morning, according to The Shreveport Times.

A fire captain and two firefighters sleeping inside the station jumped from their beds and ran outside to find a grass truck on fire after hearing a tire explode.

An electrical short inside the truck may have sparked the blaze, Capt. Scott Durfree told the newspaper.

The truck had been sitting unused for two days.

The flames quickly moved from the truck -- which was parked behind the station -- to the building. It extended up and through the attic and shot through the roof, according to the report.

Firefighters from neighboring departments responded but were unable to save the building. The firefighters are trying to salvage what they can from what remains of the station.

Durfree said that despite the department's loss it will be business as usual.

"People in the area have nothing to worry about," he said.

Plans have been made to set up a temporary station today.
