LAS VEGAS
--
The City of Las Vegas promoted Fire & Rescue Deputy Chief Mike Myers to fire chief, the city announced Wednesday.
Myers, who has been with the department for 24 years, is replacing retiring Chief Greg Gammon in January.
Gammon will be joining the College of Southern Nevada, which opened a teaching fire station in August.
"Continuing (the department's) high standards while keeping our commitment to serving the residents and visitors to Las Vegas will be the department's top priorities," Myers said.
Myers started his career with the fire department in 1986, working as a firefighter, paramedic and fire training officer.
In 2002, he was promoted to assistant fire chief.
