Ceiling Collapses on Illinois Firefighter
A firefighter in Darien was injured after a ceiling collapsed on him during the overhaul stages of a house fire yesterday morning, according to The Chicago Tribune.
The unidentified lieutenant with the Tri-State Fire Protection District Division sustained burns to his neck after a portion of a drywall ceiling fell on him and was transported to Hinsdale Hospital.
He has since been treated and released, Division Chief Dave Basek told the newspaper.
The fire in the 1000 block of Ironwood Avenue was reported at approximately 9:30 a.m. The blaze originated in the basement and quickly tore through the split-level home.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The only person home at the time of the fire was a teenage boy, who managed to get out safely and was taken to a hospital for observation.
