MARSHALL COUNTY, W. Va. --

An Arkansas man survived a terrifying car crash Tuesday night only to be arrested by police moments after his rescue.

The man, whose name police have not yet released, was working in the Cameron area. He was driving along Cameron Ridge Road when his car plunged 40 feet over a hillside.

The driver told police he slid on some loose gravel and lost control of his car. The car hit two trees, which prevented him from falling further down the hill.

The driver was able to climb out of the car on his own before firefighters and EMTs pulled him up the hill with a rope. A Marshall County sheriff's deputy took him into custody immediately after his rescue.

He's accused of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.
