A Rochester firefighter was hospitalized after being hit by a stream of water from a high-pressure hose at the scene of a house fire early this morning, according to The Democrat and Chronicle.

The unidentified lieutenant was sprayed in the face after a firefighter handling the hose line lost his balance, causing it to snap back.

He was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital and was treated and released, Deputy Chief John Kearney told the newspaper.

Crews responded to the fire at 20 Home Place on the west side of the city at approximately 1:23 a.m. and found heavy flames and smoke.

There initially was a report of a person trapped on the second floor of the house, but firefighters soon determined that everyone inside the home had escaped.

At least five people were displaced and there where no reported civilian injuries.

The fire is believed to have started outside the house and that the cause and origin remain under investigation, according to the report.
