Dec. 5, 2011

WESTMINSTER, Colo. --

A major fire in the Denver suburb of Westminster injured a monk and destroyed the Lao Buddhist Temple.

Secretary Sy Pong identified the monk as Ounkham Veunnasack. Pong says four to six monks live at the temple, and no other injuries were reported.

Westminster Fire Department spokeswoman Diana Allen says the man suffered smoke inhalation and burns. She says the injuries are not life-threatening.

The fire was reported about 6 a.m. Monday. Firefighters reported problems getting water as temperatures hovered near zero.
