BALTIMORE --

A tanker truck overturned Friday morning in Curtis Bay, a crash that left a rear portion of the truck dangling over the side of the bridge.

The incident happened at about 5:30 a.m. on the Pennington Avenue drawbridge over Curtis Creek.

Hazmat crews, along with Maryland Department of the Environment crews, responded to the scene. Officials told 11 News that the truck was empty, though some gas was reportedly leaked.

Crews were able to upright the tanker.

Fire officials said it appears the truck was broad-sided by a utility truck transporting equipment to a construction site.

The bridge is currently undergoing construction, and lane closures were in effect at the time of the crash, which initially delayed crews from getting to the scene.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area so the bridge can be inspected for possible damage.

Two people -- the driver of each vehicle -- were taken to Shock Trauma for evaluation.

The location is in a primarily industrial area in south Baltimore.
