STUART, Fla. --

A former Martin County firefighter and his twin brother were arrested Wednesday morning in connection with the theft of medical equipment stolen from an ambulance.

Stuart police said Nicholas Pizzo, a former firefighter with Martin County Fire Rescue, and his twin brother, Christopher Pizzo, are accused of burglarizing an ambulance parked outside the emergency room at Martin Memorial Medical Center North.

Police said surveillance video from the April 6 burglary showed Nicholas Pizzo opening a side door of the ambulance and running off with a box of drugs. Police said Christopher Pizzo was the getaway driver waiting in a nearby car.

Martin County Sheriff's Office detectives said the brothers also stole a drug box from an ambulance parked at a Martin County Fire Rescue station in Palm City.

Authorities said both men confessed to stealing the drug boxes, injecting the drugs and tossing the boxes in a Dumpster behind a market.
