Elderly Woman Pulled From Hawaii Fire

HONOLULU -- Paramedics rushed a 95-year-old Hilo woman to the hospital after she was pulled from her burning home by a family member Wednesday, Hawaii County fire officials said. The fire at 1694 Waianuenue Ave. in the Kaumana section of Hilo was reported at about 4:30 p.m. Firefighters arriving on the scene found flames shooting out of a bedroom window and dark smoke billowing from windows and the roof, officials said.

Paramedics rushed a 95-year-old Hilo woman to the hospital after she was pulled from her burning home by a family member Wednesday, Hawaii County fire officials said.

The fire at 1694 Waianuenue Ave. in the Kaumana section of Hilo was reported at about 4:30 p.m. Firefighters arriving on the scene found flames shooting out of a bedroom window and dark smoke billowing from windows and the roof, officials said.

Fire Capt. David Minor said the woman was pulled from the home and treated at the scene before being rushed to Hilo Medical Center. The woman's name was not released.

The fire was confined to the rear bedroom of the four-bedroom house and was extinguished by 6 p.m., Minor said.

Damage was estimated at $150,000. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
