30 Houses Burn in Mich. After Layoffs
FLINT, Mich. --
In the week since Flint cut back on police and firefighting personnel, dozens of house fires have kept remaining staff busy.
Crews were called to two separate house fires in the 2000 block of Zimmerman Avenue just after 3 a.m. Thursday.
Both homes were occupied, but firefighters said everyone was able to get out of the burning homes.
Battalion Chief Andy Graves said a total of six buildings were set on fire since midnight.
Graves said one Linden firefighter was injured while battling an abandoned house fire on Stockton Street around 4 a.m.
Flint area Crimestoppers said that more than 30 fires have been intentionally set since March 24.
They are asking for the public's help to catch those responsible.
