BOSTON --

An 82-year-old woman who was struck by a dangling hose from the back of a fire truck in Cambridge has died.

Gertrude King, of Somerville, died Thursday after a hose on the side of a Cambridge Fire Department engine struck her Tuesday. The story was first reported by our news partner, WickedLocal Cambridge. The truck was on Massachusetts Avenue in Central Square responding to a call at about 11:40 a.m. One of the truck's hoses became dislodged and began to trail behind the vehicle, according to police.

When the engine turned onto Western Avenue, the trailing hose struck King, who was standing on the median island allowing the truck to pass.
