An ambulance caught fire at the Defiance Fire Department yesterday (Jan. 19), according to The Toledo Blade.
The building -- which is shared by the fire department, municipal court, police department, and utility billing office -- was evacuated, as 40 city workers were ordered out of their offices.
Firefighters were in their quarters approximately 2:30 p.m. when a loud pop and hiss in the adjoining bay alerted them to the blaze. The unit was plugged into a device that charges equipment used in rescue runs, according to the newspaper.
Crews cut a hole in the roof of the bay where the ambulance was parked in order to battle the fire.
Officials have yet to assess the dollar loss to the vehicle and the building.
