DENVER --
One man was injured in a house fire on Sunday afternoon in Denver, and firefighters said they found what they believe is a meth lab in the basement.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and called hazardous materials teams to the home in the 2700 block of Hillside Avenue, southeast of West Evans Avenue and South Federal Boulevard. The fire was reported at 2:47 p.m., and firefighters arrived to heavy flames and smoke coming from the structure, said Lt. Phil Champagne, of the Denver Fire Department.
A man suffered from smoke inhalation and had a laceration on his hand. He told firefighters his girlfriend was still in the house, Champagne said.
Firefighters knocked down the fire and conducted a search but found nobody.
That's when they found what appears to be a meth lab in the basement, Champagne said.
The home sustained heavy damage.
