A Newark firefighter was injured this morning after falling into a trench in a basement while responding to a non-emergency call for a broken water pipe, according to The Star-Ledger.
Capt. Andy Truskowski went inside a flooded basement of a vacant house at South 10th Street at approximately 12:30 p.m. which had more than a foot of water in it.
He attempted to shut off the broken pipe but fell into the trench, twisting an ankle and cutting his hands.

He was taken to University Hospital, where he was treated and released.
