Ill. Firefighter Injured Saving Woman

A Blue Island firefighter suffered smoke inhalation yesterday while rescuing a woman from a burning apartment, according to The Southtown Star.Lt. Mike Kaliski told the newspaper that the firefighter wasn't wearing his air mask when he went to open the door of the apartment in the 12900 block of Page Court at approximately 3:27 p.m.He spotted the woman lying on the floor and dragged her out.

Lt. Mike Kaliski told the newspaper that the firefighter wasn't wearing his air mask when he went to open the door of the apartment in the 12900 block of Page Court at approximately 3:27 p.m.

He spotted the woman lying on the floor and dragged her out.

The woman was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood while the firefighter was taken to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island where he was treated and released.

A man and a woman also where in the apartment and suffered smoke inhalation but evacuated by the time crews arrived.
