The fire chief of Revere, Mass. is in hot water after allowing a firefighter to take a ride in a ladder truck to his wedding ceremony, according to WHDH-TV.

Two volunteers drove the groom and the truck to the wedding in Nahant and it took about an hour and a half to get the job done and the firefighter paid for the gas for the truck, the station reported.

Residents are calling ride inappropriate and a misuse of town property and Fire Chief Gene Doherty is defending his actions.

He said that since the engine company was out that day for manpower shortage, he took a crew from the ladder truck at the same station and had them drive the firefighter to his wedding.

"We do things for other situations whether its parades and he does a lot of volunteer work," he told the news station. "It was my way of rewarding him for the great work that he does."

After learning about the situation Mayor Thomas Ambrosio issued a statement in which he said: "The chief showed very poor judgment in this incident. I will be weighing disciplinary action."

The chief meanwhile said he would consider doing the same thing in the future depending on the individual, but would most likely talk to the mayor first.
