Station Location Ires Pa. Residents
LANCASTER TOWNSHIP, Pa. --
Firefighters in Lancaster Township want to combine two stations into one.
But the proposed location of that new station is upsetting some residents.
About 100 people attended a public meeting Monday night to hear firefighters discuss the need for a larger, updated facility.
"The main reason for a location like this is accessibility and being out of residential neighborhoods," said Assistant Fire Chief Steven Roy.
Firefighters want to close the stations on Maple and Fairview Avenues in Bausman and build a new one off Millersville Pike behind the Planet Fitness gym.
But it would be using land where a park, wooded area and meadows are now.
"It's very important for the township, city and county to look at our open space to walk in," said Kate Lutz.
"The main reason for a location like this is accessibility and being out of residential neighborhoods," said Assistant Fire Chief Steven Roy.
The School District of Lancaster currently owns the land and township officials are starting the process to secure it.
But it could take months before a decision is made.
