A Presque Isle firefighter has been arrested with arson in connection with a Nov. 13 fire at a packaging company, according to WCSH-TV.
The State Fire Marshal's Office determined that the fire that started just before 10 p.m. and destroyed the Northeast Packaging Company on Rice Street, was intentionally set.
Firefighter Timothy MacFarline arrested in connection with the blaze and was taken to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton. He has since been released on $5,000 cash bail, according to the news station.
"The department conducts a background and reference checks as a standard procedure on all potential call firefighters before they are hired," Fire Chief Darrell White told the station. "There were no indications of any concerns in hiring him as a call firefighter. After his arrest, he was suspended from the department pending further investigation."
