Conn. Man Set Wife On Fire

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- A man was arrested Sunday after New Haven police said he set his wife on fire. According to police, Howard Stewart, 50, intentionally set fire to his second-floor apartment, located at 14 Market Street, at about 8 a.m. after doused his wife and 12-year-old stepdaughter with a flammable liquid. Police said Stewart's wife suffered second- and third-degree burns and was transported to Bridgeport Hospitals Burn Unit.

A man was arrested Sunday after New Haven police said he set his wife on fire.

According to police, Howard Stewart, 50, intentionally set fire to his second-floor apartment, located at 14 Market Street, at about 8 a.m. after doused his wife and 12-year-old stepdaughter with a flammable liquid.

Police said Stewart's wife suffered second- and third-degree burns and was transported to Bridgeport Hospitals Burn Unit.

The stepdaughter and a 3-month-old child were in the home at the time of the attack but were able to escape without injury, police said.

Stewart has been charged with arson, assault and two counts of risk of injury among other charges. He is being held on $1 million bond.
