NEW YORK -- FDNY firefighters responded to a four-alarm fire last night (Oct. 28) that tore through a row of businesses, destroying at least five stores, according to NY1.

The fire started at approximately 9:30 p.n. on Southern Boulevard in the Longwood Neighborhood.

Crews were quickly arrived to the scene and forced their way into the flames. FDNY Assistant Chief Thomas Galvin told the news station that as the fire rapidly grew, the decision was made to pull the firefighters out and initiate an exterior attack.

Close to 170 firefighters spent two hours dousing the flames.

Two civilians suffered minor injuries from smoke inhalation and were transported and treated at local hospitals.

The fire is not deemed suspicious, but the investigation is ongoing.
