Fire Damages Apartment in Mich, Some Jump To Safety
GLADWIN COUNTY, Mich. --
A Tuesday night fire damaged eight units of an apartment building in Beaverton.
Three Forks Apartments, 3215 S. M-18, caught fire just after 6 p.m., according to Beaverton Police Chief Brad Lower.
Lower said some people were forced to jump about 15 feet from their second-floor apartments because a stairwell was blocked by flames.
Four residents were taken to MidMichigan Medical Center-Gladwin. One man remained at the hospital and was being treated for burns and smoke inhalation.
Lower said nearby neighbors helped firefighters rescue the trapped residents.
"There were many heroes at the scene of this fire," Lower told WNEM TV5. "Most of them were regular people who were willing to do whatever they could to help out."
The cause of the blaze remained under investigation Wednesday.
