Ohio Man Walking Dog Pulls Wife from Fire
WILLOUGHBY, Ohio --
A Willoughby man came home from walking the dog Thursday to find his home on fire.
William Poole ran into the home on Center Street at about 11:30 a.m. to rescue his wife, Marilyn Poole.
He drove her to LakeWest Hospital, and she was later transported to MetroHealth Medical Center because of the severity of her burns, Fire Capt. Scott Malker said.
William Poole was treated and released. Marilyn Poole was listed in critical condition.
Fire crews remained at the scene of the fire for nearly six hours. The home was total loss. Damage estimates are about $150,000.
Five different fire departments were called in to assist. Initially, firefighters were told to leave the home because it was hazardous; ammunition and oxygen were inside the home.
