Woman Killed in Georgia Fire; 3 Others Jump

One woman was killed in a house fire early Monday morning as three other family members jumped through a window to safety.

ACWORTH, Ga. --

One woman was killed in a house fire early Monday morning as three other family members jumped through a window to safety.

The fire broke out in the basement of the house in the 5200 block of Proctor Landing in Acworth, Lt. Dan Dupree of the Cobb County Fire Department told Channel 2 Action News reporter Ashley Hayes at the scene.

"We knocked the fire down real quick, found the victim in the basement," said Dupree. "The victim was removed, transported to Cartersville Medical Center (and) unfortunatetly, passed away."

The victim was a woman in her 30s, according to Dupree. Firefighters believe she was sleeping in the basement when the fire started.

Another adult and two children escaped from the burning home by jumping through a window at the front of the house.
