PORTSMOUTH, N.H. --

Firefighters on the Seacoast fought fires in several towns Saturday night.

The first fire ignited just after 7 p.m. in Navy housing for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. As many as 20 people were displaced the massive fire destroyed several apartments on Howard Street.

The Kittery fire chief said neighbors saw flames and started knocking on doors to get everyone out safely. Four apartments were destroyed by fire and two others sustained significant water and smoke damage.

Seven hours later, many of the same firefighters were called back out to a fire on Ocean Boulevard in Rye.

The Rye fire chief said the fire destroyed the historic Goss Farmhouse, which has been vacant for some time and up for sale. Investigators continued to investigate a cause. No one was hurt.
