ATLANTA --

Firefighters rescued two painters who were trapped on a broken scaffold for about two hours Thursday afternoon.

The men were stranded near the top of a 16-story building at 54 Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta.

The painters told firefighters a cable on the scaffold snapped and they grabbed ropes to keep from plummeting to the ground.

The two workers could be seen from News Chopper 2 and it appeared the scaffold was jammed against the front of the building.

Firefighters were lowered down to the scaffold from the roof of the building and then attached harnesses to the painters. Then, with each painter hooked to a firefighter, they rappelled down to the ground.

No one was injured.
