Fire crews were called to the home in the 2700 block of Robert Avenue around 10:30 p.m. They found heavy smoke and fire coming from the third floor of the home.
Neighbors told News 5 that the explosions were possibly due to some portable oxygen tanks. There were a number of people in the home, including several children.
A woman who lives there told News 5 that shortly after everyone got out of the home, they heard a series of explosions which they believe were portable oxygen tanks with one of the residents uses.
Fire Chief Rob McWilliams said firefighters were forced to stay outside the home and fight it defensively. A second alarm was called for additional manpower.
It took about an hour to bring the fire under control, McWilliams said. Damage is estimated at $60,000.
