Passer-By Pulls Elderly Woman from Indiana Fire
INDIANAPOLIS --
An 80-year-old woman was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon after a passer-by pulled her from her burning home, fire officials said.
Firefighters responded to the home on Indianapolis' east side just after 2 p.m., said Indianapolis Fire Department Capt. Rita Reith.
Witnesses said an unidentified passer-by had gone into the home and pulled the woman outside. She was transported to Methodist Hospital in critical condition.
The woman's son jumped from a second-story window to escape the flames. He was not injured.
Firefighters got the flames under control within 10 minutes, Reith said. She said it appeared the blaze originated in a downstairs bedroom, but that the cause was not known.
