SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. --

A group of Somerset County firefighters is getting a little extra help from community leaders when it comes to their budgets.

The Scalp Level Borough Council met Monday night and passed an ordinance that will allow the fire department to get reimbursed for emergencies.

If the fire department gets called to a car accident or a house fire, they can now bill that person's insurance company for any damaged equipment, materials used and more.

Borough members said in these tough financial times, they need to make sure the fire department can stay afloat and keep people safe.

"I think it's something every borough should do for their fire company," said Scalp Level borough member Andrew Roman Jr. "The donations just aren't there anymore."

Scalp Level also recently passed a 1 mil tax increase for residents to help the fire company. They claim it works out to be about $7 or $8 a year per household.
